Baby Boom - Imdb
Life is beautiful. There are so many wonderful experiences to have and once in a while you get to be a part of something so very special you will remember it forever. As an only child and someone with a very small family there hasn't been many babies born where I got to rush to the hospital and eagerly await meeting a cutie newborn baby. When my little cousin was born, I was three...way too little to remember much, except her infamous baptism I can still recall. When my goddaughter was born there was a sea of people waiting to pick her up and I didn't get to spend as much time with her as a baby as I would have liked. But today was different...
Today was one of those special days where I got to rush to the hospital because my best friend's baby was born a little ahead of schedule. A curious, beautiful baby girl named Madison was born on Saturday, December 5th, 2015 at 6 pounds, 18 inches. Ten toes, and ten little fingers wrapped up in a little mittens. Her little eyes scanned the faces of her new mommy & daddy, a wise aunt scooped her up to burp her, a little cousin of hers stroked her cheek tenderly, and I got to hold her little squiggly & content lil body close to my heart. I heard the cries and the soft cooing to help her return to her content state. A father confessing he had no idea how to swaddle a newborn and a mother quick to readjust and build a moment together. I witnessed a new mommy smile at her newborn baby and I was so happy to be a part of it.
I guess you can say my biological clock is ticking. It's a hum I've heard for years. Now it's a boombox sitting on my shoulder with an unlimited supply of D batteries. I held little Madison in my arms and I felt her weight, her little sounds, her soft kicks, and awed when she opened her eyes. It made me feel a yearning for a child of my own. A true feeling inside that maybe just maybe I'm ready for a little one of my own.
My husband Craig has had baby fever for quite some time. He's turning 34 this upcoming January and seeing him play with his cousin's kids has always made my hum louder each time. His life has been different than mine because he's seen the babies come and grow throughout his family. He's played baseball with the baby he once got to hold. He's got to see the personality finally shine through and the little person emerge. He's seems to be ready, right?
There's a lot to discuss and mull over. Should we move first? Should we take six months to save extra money? Should I finish this last pill cycle and start trying? Will our parents be able to watch the baby? Are we both ready?
Well it's a starting point...One I have to thank my best friend Erin and her little baby girl. =)
When Did You Know You Were Ready to Have a Baby?
I'd really love to hear...
Little Madison =)

Aww..she is so beautiful and congrats! My friends always tell me that it's not about being ready as much as willing to embrace the change that comes with it. Hmm, I think it's about what feels right at that point...Loved reading this. Happy Monday, darling.

How precious! I've always said I don't really like kids and when my friends have babies I wait until they bring them home to see them and wait longer to even hold them, but thanks for sharing your story, it definitely made me tear up. Nobody other than friends have had babies and they weren't my best friends, so maybe it just hasn't been my time yet.
ReplyDeleteOohhhh, so exciting! There's nothing quite as wonderful as a brand new baby. Congrats to your friend!

Congrats to your friend! I don't think you will ever be "ready", I think my husband and I just felt like the time was right for us. You will never have enough money, a bigger house or be 100% ok with the timing, but that's just my thoughts, haha!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your friend! I totally understand your feelings. I am a full believer that no one is ever fully ready to have a baby, but it feels right when they do. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your friend & the birth of baby Madison. She is adorable. :]

So, I'm the minority that is not ready for kids yet, even though I've been married two+ years and am over 30. I feel like you know when you know.
ReplyDeleteThat's very exciting to think about isn't it! I would be consumed with ifs and buts too, best of luck figuring them out! Congratulations to your friend as well :)
