Married Life: Starting a New Hobby Together...

 She + Him - Zoey Deschanel + M. Ward
~If you have not checked them out, please do...it's a nice lil treat ~

Sometimes I wish I could sing. Not like crazy amazing Adele singing or Zoey Deschanel or Katy Perry...just carry a little tune in my tone deaf world. Why you ask do I wish for a talent a lot of people are blessed with already? So I could start a band with my husband Craig aka Dill and start a new hobby for just the two of us. He is a bass player, rhythm guitarist, and has a knack for music...me on the other hand...well it's not so simple. I have low tones missing in my ears and the sound I hear coming out of mouth half the time is not what everyone else hears. Unfortunately this dream joint hobby of ours will never come true...but it opens the door for more possibilities!

So what else is there? We used to play Call of Duty together like almost every night, but alas once you have all the cheat codes it's not as fun anymore. The number of new multi-player games on one Xbox are few and far between too. We tried playing pool together, but I'm such an idiot savant with it where I can have amazing game and be terrible at it for the next 3 games. lol. I paint, he writes music, I read books, he listens to books on tape, I blog, he plays guitar, I love trying new restaurants, he dreads it like the plague for the fear of everything will have mushrooms in it, I love movies, he's very picky with what he will see in & out of the theaters..It's a lil bit of a conundrum.

I wish I had the tenacity and determination to start running. I love seeing all the pictures of my friends doing marathons with their spouses. It's so cute to see the matching scarves! Craig had suggested running but my body growled back at him. A friend mentioned perhaps Craig and I start taking cooking classes together because basically all we do together is eat. It's a maybe. Another friend suggested a creative workshop! Craig is good with his hands with home repairs so maybe we can take a tinkering workshop like glass molding. Or perhaps we can take the home repairs to the next step and lean together?? Hmmm...

I'm not exactly sure why we're having a hard time coming up with a new hobby for the two of us... I know, The Walking Dead season ended! It was our time to chill out, argue over who ate too much popcorn, and snuggle up with our cats who are always curious when we shut the lights off. We started watching Jeopardy daily again and it's honestly made me long for more time together just being us. It's all Alex's Trebeck's fault! lol. We laugh, we giggle, we poke fun, and it's becoming my favorite 25 minutes of my day. Maybe we could find a monthly trivia night...Ooh now we're getting warmer!!

Or I could revisit the music concept and finally, yes finally, learn how to play the ukulele. Craig could help teach me and it would be one of our activities together! Who knows we could still start a band. I would be the ukulele player and he could sing...Toots + Dill, a small Harmony band.

It's a wonderful pipe dream...

  1. I think it's great to have something that you like to do together, but my husband and I actually don't have anything like that...I sort of like that we have our own things and come together to talk about them! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  2. How fun would it be to start a band together! I love how much my husband have in common, but also enjoy the things that we like to do separately. A band would be so much fun!

  3. We go hiking together a lot. I use the term hiking loosely. It's more like walking. Outdoors. :) We also just bought a house and are beginning the long road of home renovation. Not sure I'd consider it a hobby but it's definitely bonding time! :)

  4. Starting a band with your partner is really the perfect indie dream but there are other ways you guys could make music together without having to know how to sing. Still, I once heard from a singing coach that everyone has the ability to learn how to sing so maybe investing in some singing lessons would be a fun start to a new hobby!

  5. Ahh, finding hobbies together can be hard. My s/o can sing and play guitar, and I can do neither! But we do watch TV, attend concerts and sporting events, and travel a lot. Sometimes it's nice to have your own things and just catch up together about them afterwards! I also like the cooking class idea!
