Married Life: Building New Traditions!

One of my favorite wedding pics + part of our Cake Topper

It's incredible for me to say that I've almost been married a year. In four more short months I can say I've known my husband for six years. And in 2 more weeks I can say we've lived together in my tiny studio apartment for 3 years. Wow the time flies...literally. In all of the days, months, and years I've been noticing, outside of the holidays, Craig and I have fallen into some traditions between us that always bring a smile to my face and warmth to my heart!

I had been brainstorming little things Craig and I do for a few weeks now for this exact post, but one such tradition came to life over this past weekend I didn't even think to add...

There is a place called Harry Burrito's in Nyack, NY, which is one of our go-to date places! We go at least every 2-3 months. It's a simple little whole in the wall with the best burritos around. Craig and I always order the same thing and finally the waiters/waitresses are catching on to us. On Saturday Craig started to order and the waiter I used to call Mr. Grumpy said, "No Need man...You and your wife would like 2 bay beef burritos, no beans, pico de gallo, extra cheese, sour cream, and guac all in inside? Oh and two house margaritas - one salt and one sugar!" Mr. Grumpy smiled a full 100 watt smile and Craig and I nodded and laughed at our lil moment.

Another tradition that started a few years ago on our way to wedding in Virginia is something we always say when we're in traffic. I think I had first said, "What's up with all the traffic?" and then Craig proceeded to say, "Oh there just going to Anthony & Kianna's wedding too!" I laughed and slowly we started saying it everywhere. "Why is there so much traffic!" "Everyone is going to see Hamilton!" or "Everyone is going to Punta Cana" when we were in the passport line in the DR.

We also have a little game to see who can sneak out and get breakfast in the morning without waking the other. He always wakes me up when he leaves but I play possum so he thinks I'm sleeping. I'm better at this game than he is!

Another little tradition is quoting the movie "Independence Day".  We don't go a week without working something from that movie into our daily lives.

The last one is the annual beach trip to Craig's friend Greg's house in Long Beach Island, NJ. We've gone 2 summers in a row and with the temps falling in NY I'm dreaming of those days. A whole group of us go down and pretty much play & bbq for 5 days straight. We go to the arcade, sneak onto the beach to watch the sunrise, and walk yes walk to the bar where every Friday is 80's night. It's such a happy time for Craig and I and I look forward hopefully to the trip this year!

Some of these are definitely traditions but others now seem to be little quirks that make us a couple. I love them all the same.

  1. I love all the little, loving things you do, especially sneaking out and getting the breakfast! We have been married for almost 29 years and we started going to a little bed & breakfast in Lancaster Pa for our first anniversary and still do it now. We love it and have met some wonderful people that visit the same place year after year as well! Yes we have had to miss years on occasion but we always make it back!
