Married Life: Traditionally The First Year Wedding Anniversary Gift is Paper?

Design: My Wedding Cake Topper w/ Free Canva help! =)
One of my favorite parts of my wedding was my cake topper! It was so us!

My husband - my garage band king - is one of the easiest people to buy a present for on special occasions. He has wishlists on Amazon and Guitar Center. I also can walk into Guitar Center and anything musical would suffice as an "Omg Fucking Awesome!" gift.

I've been very lucky...up until now.

So Christmas happened, then Craig's birthday on January 25th, and then Valentine's Day. Yeah, this kid makes out like a bandit this time of year. Now we have our Wedding Anniversary on March 27th...Hmm...I don't think more guitar strings are going to be able to do the job this time.

If I follow the Traditional First Year Wedding Anniversary gift guide - the first year should be a paper gift. I feel like that's easy for husband to buy a wife. Some ideas from the The Nest.com were notebooks, prints, books, *gasp* a hand-written love letter, or a Pandora charm of a book (Hint: if anyone I know IRL is reading and would like to help out Craig!). Pretty much anything paper with a personal touch will do. For me to give Craig...hmmm this may not be easy.

I'm a little stumped if I'm going to follow this tradition. I was thinking of making personalized papers for lyrics like Drew Barrymore did for Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer, but Craig won't use them. However I can possibly still use this inspiration!!

Part of my wedding present from him was a song. A beautiful Song called "Mel's Song" that was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. He wrote it and sang it to me during our reception and it was the first time I had heard it. Maybe I can make a print of the lyrics? Or that might be a better gift for him to give me?? Hmm...

I'm also considering getting him business cards to pass out at concerts, open mic nights, and to leave at studios. These cards would be just for him. Not for a band that might break up...Just him. Maybe it'll give him a little boost of confidence! =) Yeah, I like this idea. At least I'll give him business cards and that will be my paper gift!!! Woohoo!!

Wedding traditions always fascinate me and it makes me wonder...
Do people still follow the Wedding Anniversary Guides?

  3. I love the idea of having those lyrics printed...we went the paper route but did tickets for a trip...you could always do a concert ticket or something like that! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  4. We did the "traditional" gift as our first year gift but as something little on the side to another gift - it's hard following the trend haha! I don't know if we'll continue since the future years seem even harder with things to come up with!

  5. I definitely want to do the traditional gifts because it will force me to be more creative with gift giving, I think I'll give Brian sprouts tickets or something for our first anniversary in October.
